AI Assurance
AI assurance is the structured set of evidence, processes, and controls that demonstrate an AI system meets defined standards for safety, fairness, security, transparency, and regulatory compliance.
What AI Assurance Delivers
Assurance is the audit-ready side of AI governance. Governance defines what should be true about an AI system. Assurance produces the evidence that it is true. That evidence typically includes documentation of intended use, testing and validation results, risk assessments, control implementation records, monitoring reports, and incident records.
Assurance is what an external auditor, regulator, or customer sees. Governance is what the organization does. The two are related but distinct.
Why Assurance Is Becoming a Business Requirement
Enterprise customers, regulators, and cyber insurers are increasingly asking for AI assurance evidence rather than trusting attestations. Under the EU AI Act, high-risk AI systems require conformity assessments and technical documentation. Under ISO/IEC 42001, certified organizations produce management system evidence. Customer procurement processes now routinely ask for AI-specific attestations alongside SOC 2 and ISO 27001.

Assurance in an AI Governance Program
A mature AI governance program treats assurance as an output, not a separate workstream. Governance activities produce evidence as a byproduct: risk assessments during intake, testing before deployment, monitoring in production, incident records after failures. If the governance process is designed with assurance in mind, the evidence is already there when someone asks for it.
