AI Agent Monitoring

AI agent monitoring is the continuous observation of autonomous AI agents in operation, recording the tools they call, the actions they take, the data they reach and the agents they delegate to.

Agents Operate Without a Person in the Loop

Monitoring human AI use watches a person deciding what to submit. Monitoring an agent watches software that initiates its own work, runs on a schedule or a trigger, and takes actions nobody reviewed individually. The volume difference alone changes the problem, since one agent can produce more tool calls in an hour than a team produces in a week, and the question is which of them mattered.

Edges Carry More Information Than Nodes

Recording that an agent called a tool is a node. Recording that it read a customer record, then called an external API, then wrote to a shared drive is a path, and the path is what distinguishes routine work from exfiltration. Monitoring that captures individual calls without their relationships produces a log that is complete and unreadable. Multi-agent systems make this sharper, since the interesting behavior sits in the hand-offs between agents.

Coverage Is the First Number to Establish

An agent monitoring deployment that watches the agents someone registered says nothing about the ones nobody did. Comparing the monitored set against an independent source, such as a gateway log or an identity provider's service principals, produces a coverage figure, and that figure is the context every other metric needs. Kovrr's work on measuring agent coverage against the gateway log sets out the method.

Monitoring Produces Signals, Correlation Produces Findings

Individual observations arrive constantly and most of them carry no weight on their own. Correlating across positions is what turns a stream of activity into a small number of items worth acting on, which is the role the AI Interaction Data Fabric plays. What remains afterward, as a record that can be examined later, is covered under AI agent audit trail.
